School District Reimbursement for Indigenous Knowledge Keepers

A music education conference
School District Reimbursement for Indigenous Knowledge Keepers
Thanks to a Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council Partnership Development Grant, the conference organizers can provide school districts some reimbursement for a Knowledge Keeper’s expenses while attending this conference. School districts pay all Knowledge Keepers’ expenses, and then can request reimbursement of up to $1000. Expenses can include ferry costs (vehicle and driver), gasoline costs (but not mileage), airline ticket cost, hotel accommodation at the conference hotels for two nights only (Sunday, May 8 and Monday, May 9), ancillary food (e.g., Sunday, May 8 dinner), and an honorarium that the school district may have provided the Knowledge Keeper. Please send Dr. Hector Vazquez (everythingisconnected@uvic.ca) this information following the conference. In your communication to him, please 1) provide the email address and phone number of the Indigenous department administrator so that Hector might communicate with that individual, 2) list all expenses of up $1000 that your school district has incurred, 3) explain to whom the cheque should be addressed (i.e., School District x), and 4) indicate the mailing address where we should send the cheque. All communication should be on school district letterhead, signed by an Indigenous Department administrator. We ask that you send this request before May 31, 2022.
